U.S. Post Office Hours
  • There are many reasons why you might need to use the services of your local Post Office. You might need a P.O. Box for personal or business use, you might need to mail a package, or you might need to buy stamps. Maybe you need a money order, a passport, or a change of address form.

Whatever your reason is for visiting your local Post Office, there’s nothing more frustrating than getting there only to find out that they are closed. That’s why it is so important to know what your local Post Office’s hours are before you go.

What Days Is The Post Office Open ?

All U.S. Postal Service offices are open weekdays, as well as Saturdays. However, they are not open on Sundays at all. Also, the Saturday hours are generally shorter than the weekday hours.

Does the US Post Office Still Deliver on Saturday?

For quite a while now, the U.S. Postal Service has been saying that they plan to stop delivering mail on Saturdays. Most Post Office branches, if not all of them, would also be closed all day on Saturday, according to that plan.

An act of Congress was recently passed. That act prevented the U.S. Postal Service from implementing that plan. The Postal Service said that it had a right to close on Saturdays, but Congress determined that it did not. So, for now at least, mail will still be delivered on Saturdays and Post Office branches will remain open.

What Hours Is the Post Office Open?

Most U.S. Post Office branches are open from 10 to 5 on weekdays. On Saturdays, the hours may be as short as 9 to noon.

Does Each Post Office Have Different Hours?

It’s important not to assume that your Post Office’s hours will be typical. Some branches have different hours and different policies, especially if they are located in small towns. Some may open or close either earlier or later on certain days. Small branches with limited staff may even close for 30 minutes to an hour in the middle of the day for lunch.

It is also worth noting that some branches may keep their main doors open at all times, but close their service desk during off hours. That allows area residents to go in and check their personal P.O. Boxes whenever it is convenient for them.

How Do I Figure Out If My Local Post Office Is Open?

The easiest ways to figure out the hours of your closest Post Office branch are:

    • Call them and ask.
    • Drive by and check the posted hours on the door.
    • Look up their hours of operation online.
